Building Technology Yard

Students working with metal structure
This protective cover was designed and built by Studio 804 in the spring of 1997. It provided protection from the elements for an outdoor workshop behind Marvin Hall, home of the University of Kansas School of Architecture and Design. Referred to as the Building Technology Yard, it was an invaluable asset to the school, used by students at all levels to explore the principles of material investigation.

As interest in hands-on work spread throughout the architecture department, the university responded by acquiring the East Hills Warehouse, which is now home to Studio 804 and is used by several other studios and classes. The Building Technology Yard eventually became less essential and was removed in 2014 to make way for Studio 804’s construction of The Forum on the site.
