1144 Pennsylvania, Studio 804’s second house, was completed during the spring semester of 1999. Located in Lawrence, this three-bedroom, two-bathroom home was designed to be universally accessible to all occupants. Taking advantage of the south-facing corner lot, a solar light box floods the 1,300-square-foot interior with sunlight during the winter while trees to the south provide shade in the summer. The exterior cement fiber siding is ventilated through a system designed to promote longevity within the wall assembly. The resulting corncrib aesthetic gives the house a distinctive appearance while requiring virtually no maintenance.
